Messier 1 - The Crab Nebula

Messier 1, the Crab Nebula. It is a supernova remnant of a star that exploded and was seen by Chinese astronomers in 1054 A.D. The supernova was so bright, it could be seen in the daytime. It is also classified as a pulsar wind nebula.

It is located in the constellation Taurus. The name comes from a drawing that resembled a crab, sketched by William Parsons in 1842/1843 using a 36-inch telescope.
