Messier 66, also known as NGC 3627, is a barred spiral galaxy in the constellation Leo and is part of a small group of galaxies (Messier 65 and NGC 3628) form the Leo Triplet. It is about 31 million light-years away from Earth and has a diameter of about 95 thousand light-years.

It was discovered by French astronomer Charles Messier on March 1st, 1780, who described it as "very long and very faint". The Leo Triplet is a common target for amateur astronomers with the nearby Messier 65 being separated by only 20 arc-minutes.
